Make a Difference…
Mentor a Child!
Dear Neighbors,
My family, consisting of myself, my wife and my 16-year-old son, have been
involved in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program for about a year and a half.
We have an 8-year-old "Little Brother," who has lived with his mother in a
series of trailers in the Port Hadlock/Port Townsend area during that time.
Some have
power and running water; some do not. There is no money for extras. His mother
called Big Brothers and applied on his behalf.
Since being matched, we have placed our Little Brother in Little League baseball,
given him swimming lessons, taken him sailing, and to our son's high school
basketball and baseball games. He comes to our home for dinner on occasion.
We give him books to read and he asks a lot of questions, which we answer.
He is picking up a lot, as well as having a lot of fun.
UGN gives generously to Big Brothers/Big Sisters—and from my point of view,
it is a very worthy program. The program works with many kids who are at risk.
Ending the cycle of poverty starts with helping kids in need to have new experiences
and gain a broader perspective of life than they otherwise may have. Please
continue to support the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program. I can tell you from
experience that it works wonders with the kids it helps. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Jim Maupin, Nora Petrich and Morgan Maupin
