Questions and Answers from the President
What is the United Way Campaign?
It is the fundraising arm of United Way, an organization operated by a volunteer group of local citizens. The objective of UW is to eliminate the effort and cost of many separate charitable fundraising campaigns by conducting a single annual campaign to meet the financial needs of
non-profit service organizations in our community!
Who decides how the money is allocated?
A local group of citizen volunteers decide how the money is allocated. They review applications, make agency site visits, and attend agency hearings. The goal of the allocation committee is to be good stewards of local public dollars.
Allocation amounts are based on three main principles:
- The services provided in our community
- The need for those services in our community
- The need for UW dollars by the agency
Questions and Answers from the Campaign Chair
Why should I support agencies that I never use?
The wholesome atmosphere of our
community is directly influenced by the health,
happiness, and well being of everyone in it.
Broken homes, delinquency, neglect of the needy,
and drug abuse impacts everyone in our community.
This is why we should support agencies that
we never use. It does make a difference!
Why doesn't UW fund all service organizations?
United Way of Grant County has an
"Open door" policy. Any agency that is a non-profit,
health service agency, may be considered for allocation.
In some cases, agencies do not join UW due to their
Organization's policies, or because they don't meet
all the UW requirements. UW experienced volunteers
are knowledgeable about local needs and make sure
that your dollars support programs that are
needed most! |
